Trumpets

Trumpets are wind instruments belonging to the brass family. They are mainly used in concert bands, marching bands, and symphony orchestras. At Twigg Musique, we offer a wide variety of trumpets, for all levels and especially for all budgets.

History and Origins

The trumpet as we know it today has undergone numerous evolutions over the centuries. Its origins date back more than 3000 years BC in ancient Egypt, where bronze trumpets were discovered in tombs. They were primarily used during religious ceremonies and funerals.

In the Middle Ages, trumpeters were mainly used in a military context, to give attack and retreat signals. It was during the Renaissance that the instrument began to be integrated into Western classical music, especially in royal fanfares.

The instruments of that time were straight and had no valve system. In the 19th century, Adolphe Sax improved the trumpet by adding valves so that musicians could play all the notes. In the 20th century, monocoque valves were replaced by cylindrical valves, which are now the most used.

Materials and Durability

Most instruments are made of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. However, some professional trumpets are made of yellow brass, rose brass, or sterling silver.

The material has an influence on the sound of the instrument. For example, yellow brass trumpets produce a warmer sound than brass trumpets, while brass trumpets produce a clearer and brighter sound.

Brass is a strong and durable material, making it an excellent choice for beginners and students. However, if you are looking for a warmer and richer sound, you should consider investing in a yellow brass trumpet.

Rose brass and sterling silver trumpets are mainly used by professional musicians who are looking for an even warmer and richer sound.
